Ferret Illness Symptoms - 3 Points to Remember

It is fairly easy to keep your ferret healthy and happy. Feed it high-quality ferret food, give it plenty of fresh clean water, and find a good vet that knows how to properly care for pets ferrets. However, as ferrets are very small animals it is important that you act quickly as soon as you notice any ferret illness symptoms you will not have time to wait and observe a problem to see if it gets worse.

There are many different types of illness that a Ferret can contract, most of these can be kept in check through vaccinations, good basic care, and regular trips to the vet. However, there are several things that you should look for to make sure that your ferret is not coming down with any dangerous illness. Here are three points to remember;

1, check your ferrets teeth on a daily basis. His teeth should be clean, and the gums should be pink.

You may find that your ferret has broken tooth, but this should not be a problem unless your pet is uncomfortable when eating, or the tooth has changed colour. If your ferrets gums turn red, or white tartar has built up take him to the vet.

2, hair balls are very common but very preventable problem with pet ferrets. These can be prevented by giving your ferret some cat or ferret hair ball remedy regularly during their shedding season. Your ferret can not cough up the hair ball in the same way that a cat can, and may cause a blockage in their intestine, which can be life-threatening.

3, your pet ferret can catch the same type of flu and colds that people catch. This means that you can give your pet the flu, and they can give it back to you. Your ferret symptoms will be very similar to yours, and should not be particularly dangerous unless they stop eating. If you are worried about your pet ferrets health than take them straight to a vet.

Ferrets make beautiful pets, and like any pet they can become a part of your family. It can be heartbreaking to lose any member of your family so make sure that you take very good care of your pet ferret, and pay special attention to any ferret illness symptoms that you notice.
